Hi, Kiwanda here. I decided to open this page to encourage conversation about the arts. This page is not restricted to the Editors. If you would like to participate you need only subscribe to the blog and then join in.
Lucille Clifton is at the top of my list because she is my favorite poet. Her work has a wonderful tone and rhythm that resonates with me.
From her "the lost baby poem"
the time i dropped your almost body down down to meet the waters under the city and run one with the sewage to the sea what did i know about waters rushing back what did i know about drowning or being drowned
- Lucille Clifton
Sonia Sanchez is at the top of your list, Romus. I'm curious, why?
If any one is interested in reading either Ms. Clifton or Ms. Sanchez their work is readily available online.
Langston Hughes, William Shakespeare, Maya Angelou, Bob Dylan, Nikki Giovanni, The Last Poets, Biggie Smalls, Rumi, Emerson, Charles Bukowski, Gil Scott Heron, Smokey Robinson, Tupac Shakur, and Bob Marley, just to name a few.

ReplyDeleteOne of the first questions I ask a poet upon meeting him or her is, "Who are some of your favorite poets?"
ReplyDeleteWithout getting into details, (we can do that later) some of my favorite poets are:
Lucille Clifton
Yusef Komunyakaa
Derek Walcott
Etheridge Knight (Haiku)
Patricia Smith
Stevie Wonder
That last one might throw you but most of Stevie's lyrics scan beautifully as poetry.
So, I'm wondering Romus and Infinite, who are some of your favorite poets?
My favorites list starts with:
ReplyDeleteSonia Sanchez
Robert Hayden
Lucille Clifton
Gwendolyn Brooks
June Jordan
Ntozake Shange
Maya Angelou
and a few others that escape my mind.

ReplyDeleteSo Mr. Shabazz,
